So I know it is my new home, but there a are many ways ol'sasky is a much better place to live. Here are a few reasons to stay the heck out of Alberta.
- No Crown Corps - it's not a matter of being government run, it's that in Sask it's so easy to set up your utilities. There is SaskEnergy, Power, SGI, Sasktel. You don't really have a choice, so it's easy and stress free. Here in Alta you there are multiple choices for power and energy, even more for phone, you have to get separate car insurance thru places like RBC, then go to a registry to get you license and registration. It's a huge pain in the ass. Quite painful.
- The Eskimos. But that is obvious. Go Riders!
- People who diss Saskatchewan. Everyone is a comedian. "Oh, the place you can see your dog run away for 3 days".... SHUT UP. Then they all say that they haven't even been there. It looks the same as here jackass.
- The weather. It seems even more volatile here then back home in SK. It will be 23 degrees one day, then -2 the next. Snow, rain, or anything else without any notice.
- All the newspapers. In Regina, I bought the leader post. Here, there are several major newspapers for Edmonton alone. How do I know which one to choose. Dammit!
- Without question the worst thing about this new province is speed cameras. The first 27 years, 2 months, and 6 days of my life I received 1 speeding ticket. The next 1 month and 4 days...3. Yes 3 speeding tickets. They show up in the mail more often then the Home Depot flyer. Ok, in truth one of the tickets I got in Saskatchewan, while driving back from Alberta, but still. I got 2 camera tickets in the mail in ONE WEEK. It's bullshit. In both cases I was driving exactly 15 km/h over the speed limit, in areas where it is quite safe to do so. It's my fault, and I am going to have to change. I knew how to speed in SK, but the game has changed now. And I am losing miserably.

Born and raised in Alberta, i hate it. HOWEVER your rant bugged me.
No crown corporations = better business. If you ever took an economics course, you would understand 'supply and demand'. The more companies, the higher demand, the LOWER the prices.
Also Ive been to Saskatchewan so i can say this. It doesn't suck, theres just nothing there. You dont even have a 'city' that has cracked 250 000, The whole province is the size of Edmonton. Its cute, And its easy to make fun of, so everyone does. Saskatchewan isnt just for laughs in Alberta, its pretty much nationwide.
And finally, speed cameras. Go over 10 km/h and you will get a ticket, anything 10 and under, your safe. And why the fk are you even speeding through residential streets. Who are you to complain about something like that. Show some respect to families and kids that dont want you to speed. I hope you get more tickets.

It's amazing how dead wrong you are about the crown corporations, especially when it comes to the prices that young people pay. Ask a young kid how much it cost to insure his car in Sask and then find out what it costs in Alberta. I guarantee it's over double in wild rose country. Apparently it gets better as you age and have a safe driving record, but SGI still owns Alberta when it comes to auto insurance.
Speed trap cameras are a money grab, end of story.
Sask is the next big thing, and Albertan's are just getting uptight knowing that they're not going to be the only province raking in huge profits from resources over the next several decades....

I know Alberta has some flaws, but I still love Alberta...My beef is with the Saskatchewan Rider fans who are SO ANNOYING! I wish they had a real city in their own province! We get get people from all over Canada coming here to reap the benefits of our awesome economy. So when you say that you're only here to work and you dislike the people, well go figure, you're amongst people just like you. Alberta has variety, you gotta understand that. There's the rig pigs, then there's the majority who are just normal people and just as nice as anyone else. You should take a little trip out of Fort Mac to some places like Calgary, Red Deer, Lethbridge and other places throughout our province to find that we have beautiful culture and real stand-up, hard working people.
